"Pombal (Portuguese pronunciation: [põba]) is a city and a municipality in Leiria District in the sub region Pinhal Litoral in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 55,217, in an area of 626.00 km². The population of the city of Pombal proper is about 18,000 inhabitants. The municipality is served by a main railway station. The present Mayor is Luís Diogo de Paiva Morão Alves Mateus, elected by the Social Democratic Party. The municipal holiday is November 11 and celebrates St. Martin's Day."
"Pombal es una ciudad portuguesa que pertenece al Distrito de Leiria, región Centro y subregión de Pinhal Litoral, y cuenta aproximadamente con 16.000 habitantes. Es sede de un municipio con 626,36 km² de área y 56.300 habitantes (2001), subdividido en 17 freguesías. El municipio limita al norte con los municipios de Figueira da Foz y de Soure, al este con Ansião y Alvaiázere, al sureste con Ourém, al sudoeste con Leiria y al oeste con el océano Atlántico. Pombal fue fundada por Gualdim Pais, gran maestre de la orden de los templarios, con sede en Tomar, que ordenó construir su castillo. Obtuvo el fuero en 1179."
